Dental Implant Cost in Chennai: What Decides the Price

At Luxe Dental Clinic in Velachery, an implant tooth including the crown starts from ₹30,000, and the implant alone from ₹22,000. Your final price is confirmed in a written estimate after your check-up. What you finally pay depends on how many teeth you are replacing, the state of your bone and gums, any treatment needed first, and the crown you choose. This guide explains each cost item, what a clear estimate should list, and the steps from first visit to final tooth.
Key points
- An implant tooth has three parts: the implant, the abutment and the crown. Check which parts a quote covers.
- Bone grafts, extractions and gum treatment are added only if your case needs them.
- Treatment usually takes about 3–6 months, and longer if a bone graft or gum treatment is needed first.
- Past gum disease (periodontitis) makes problems around an implant more likely later, so regular maintenance matters.

Dental implant price at our Velachery clinic
Dental implants are one of our specialised services. An implant tooth including the crown starts from ₹30,000, and the implant alone from ₹22,000. These are starting prices: the final price depends on your case and is confirmed in a written estimate after your check-up. The estimate also lists any extra step your case needs, before treatment starts. You can pay by cash, UPI or card; ask about payment options when you receive your estimate.
| Cost item | When it is needed | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Implant tooth including the crown | Always | From ₹30,000 (the implant alone from ₹22,000) |
| Removing a damaged tooth | If the tooth is still there | Extractions from ₹1,000 |
| Gum treatment | If the gums need treatment first | Shown in your estimate |
| Bone graft | If the bone is too thin | Shown in your estimate |
| Temporary tooth | If the gap shows while you heal | Shown in your estimate |

What you are paying for: three parts, one tooth
- The implant: a small titanium post placed in the jawbone. It takes the place of the lost root.
- The abutment: a small connector, usually fixed onto the implant once it has bonded with the bone.
- The crown: the tooth you see, made by a dental laboratory to match your other teeth.
These are the standard parts of an implant, as the Cleveland Clinic patient guide to dental implants also explains. A quote may cover only the implant post, or the complete tooth. When you compare prices, compare the whole tooth.
What decides the cost of a dental implant
- How many teeth you are replacing. One implant with one crown costs less than several implants holding a bridge.
- Your bone. After a tooth is lost, the jawbone there thins over time. If there is too little, a bone graft is added first, or at the same visit as the implant. This adds cost and can add a few months.
- Your gums. Any gum disease has to be under control before an implant goes in. Dr. Sivaranjani, whose MDS is in periodontics, checks this at your first visit.
- Removing a damaged tooth. If the tooth is still there, it is taken out first. Sometimes the implant can be placed at the same visit.
- The implant system. Implant brands differ in price and in how easily their parts can be found years later.
- The crown material. Metal-ceramic and zirconia crowns differ in look, strength and price. Read more about dental crowns.
- A temporary tooth. If the gap is visible when you smile, a temporary tooth during healing is an extra item.
What a written estimate should include
- the consultation and planning X-rays
- any extraction, gum treatment or bone graft
- the implant, the abutment and the final crown
- any temporary tooth while the implant heals
- the stitch check, healing reviews and crown visits
- what happens, and what it costs, if an extra step turns out to be needed
With every item on paper, you can compare clinics fairly and avoid surprises halfway through treatment.
From first visit to final tooth
- Consultation and X-rays. We look at the gap, your gums, your bite and your general health. You receive a plan and a written estimate.
- Preparation, if needed. Gum treatment, an extraction or a bone graft.
- Placing the implant. One sitting under local anaesthesia. Most people feel pressure rather than pain.
- Stitch check. A short visit about 1–2 weeks later.
- Healing. The implant fuses with the bone, which usually takes 3–6 months. The US Food and Drug Administration notes that this healing may take several months or longer. You come in for short reviews.
- Uncovering, if needed. If the implant was left covered by gum to heal, a small opening is made under local anaesthesia and a healing cap is fitted.
- The crown. A mould is taken, the laboratory makes your crown, and it is fitted, usually over two visits.
Risks and when to call us
Implant placement is minor surgery, and most people heal without trouble. Risks listed by the FDA include infection around the implant, numbness from nerve damage, sinus perforation and an implant that becomes loose. The FDA also notes that smoking may affect healing, and that untreated gum disease and uncontrolled diabetes add risk.
Peri-implantitis is inflammation around an implant, linked to plaque bacteria, that destroys the bone holding it. A review for the 2017 World Workshop on periodontal and peri-implant diseases found strong evidence for three risk factors (Schwarz and colleagues, 2018). They are a history of periodontitis, poor plaque control and no regular maintenance. That is why we plan maintenance visits from the start. Implants can last many years with daily cleaning and regular check-ups, but the bone around them can still be lost to peri-implantitis.
Call us if bleeding does not stop with firm pressure, or if swelling is still growing after the third day. Also call if you notice a fever, pus, numbness that lasts, or an implant or crown that feels loose. If swelling spreads towards your eye or neck, or you have trouble swallowing or breathing, go to a hospital emergency department straight away.
Why the starting price is not the whole cost
A starting price is a useful guide, but your total depends on what your mouth needs. Treating gum disease first, or adding bone where it is thin, can feel like an extra expense. These steps help the implant bond and stay healthy, and skipping them can lead to problems that cost more to fix later. If two estimates differ a lot, compare the items listed, not only the totals. If you have had gum disease, read dental implants after gum disease; if you have diabetes, read how diabetes affects oral health.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a single tooth implant cost in Chennai?
It depends on your bone, your gums, the implant system and the crown. At our Velachery clinic, an implant tooth including the crown starts from ₹30,000 (the implant alone from ₹22,000); the final price is confirmed in a written estimate after your check-up and X-rays.
Is the crown included in the dental implant cost?
Not in the implant price alone, so ask for the cost of the finished tooth. At our clinic, the implant starts from ₹22,000, and the implant tooth including the crown starts from ₹30,000. Any extraction, graft or temporary tooth is listed in your written estimate, so you know the full cost before you decide.
How many sittings are required for a tooth implant?
Usually six or more visits over about 3–6 months: the consultation, the implant placement, a stitch check about 1–2 weeks later, short healing reviews, sometimes an uncovering visit, then usually two visits for the crown. A bone graft or gum treatment adds visits and time. Your plan shows the expected timeline before you start.
Is getting a dental implant painful?
The implant is placed under local anaesthesia, so most people feel pressure rather than pain. Expect some soreness and swelling for a few days; it usually settles with the painkillers your dentist advises. Call us if the pain is getting worse rather than better after the first few days.
Is a dental implant more expensive than a bridge?
An implant often costs more at the start. A conventional bridge, though, is usually held by crowns on the two neighbouring teeth, which are trimmed even when healthy. An implant leaves them alone and helps keep the jawbone. Ask for an estimate for both, and Dr. Sivaranjani will explain which suits your mouth.
