Braces & Aligners

Braces & Aligners

WHAT ARE THE PURPOSE OF BRACES?

While the primary objective for wearing braces is to enhance facial appearance, many individuals are unaware that there may be other orthodontic issues such as an open bite, jaw structure, or crossbite.

HOW IS ADULT DENTITION DEFINED?

This is the period during which adult teeth, or permanent teeth, take the place of primary teeth that help in appearance, speaking, and digestion. During this time, individuals may encounter a variety of difficulties that may be resolved with braces. Among these concerns are the following:

  • Crowding / haphazard tooth placement may contribute to poor oral hygiene and may also be a cause of dental caries (Cavities).
  • Awkward Bite that impairs chewing efficiency.
  • Crooked teeth may contribute significantly to periodontal issues such as bleeding gums, halitosis (bad breath), and tooth mobility (Premature loss of teeth).
  • If the teeth are irregular, calculus deposits might form, resulting in yellow teeth.
  • Teeth that are positioned forward / proclaimed result in a more convex profile and a posteriorly shifted chin.
  • Open Bite
  • The space between teeth that might result in speech difficulties

HOW IS MIXED DENTITION DEFINED?

Mixed Dentition is a stage of development in which a person’s mouth has a mixture of primary and permanent teeth. Braces are beneficial at this period because they address the following problems:

Jaw growth issues may be treated non-invasively at this point but may need surgical correction later.

Orthodontic treatment for misaligned teeth. This must be addressed immediately, or it will have a serious impact on the child’s psyche.

WHAT IS THE APPROPRIATE TIME TO RECEIVE BRACES?

Each person is unique. Orthodontic therapy may begin as early as the age of seven. Braces have no upper age restriction.

You may receive braces at any age if you have excellent dental health and solid teeth.

Orthodontic therapy is provided for patients of all ages.

WHAT BRACE TYPES ARE AVAILABLE?

Metal Conventional Braces:

This is the most frequent and classic form of braces. Today’s metal braces are far more comfortable and compact in size. Elastics in a variety of colors are required to secure the wire to the braces. The wires work by using the heat generated by your body to shift teeth more swiftly and painlessly. There is no upper age restriction for them since individuals of all ages may use metal braces to straighten their teeth.

Self-Ligating Metal Braces

These are metal brackets with a shutter or lock mechanism that eliminate the need to tie the wire with elastic. Metal self-ligating braces are more comfortable and compact than standard metal braces. These are advantageous for expanding the arch and minimising the necessity for extraction.

Conventional Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces have transparent brackets. They are tooth-coloured and so blend in more naturally with your teeth. The form and dimensions are identical to those of metal braces. These are less noticeable on the teeth and favoured by older teens and adults with aesthetic concerns. Occasionally, even the wires used are brightly coloured to minimise their visibility. Due to their less noticeable appearance, they need more care and protection than metal braces since they are bigger and more fragile. They need more protection, which is why they are more often used on top teeth than on lower teeth.

Braces for the Lingual Canal

Lingual Braces are braces made of heavy metal that are hidden below the teeth. These metallic braces are also available in silver and gold. Each Bracket is customised using CAD-CAM / 3D Design. The procedure is very attractive and little apparent. This, however, may result in modest speech impairments during therapy.

Aligners

Clear Aligners are trays made of medical-grade polycarbonate that eliminate the need for braces or wire. They are completely undetectable, which addresses cosmetic issues and makes them particularly desirable to individuals in need of orthodontic treatment. Though they are located indoors, they do not have any dietary limitations. People feel that being put on the inside would cause them to have difficulty communicating; this is a misconception. Transparent braces, on the other hand, are very pleasant and sanitary. Additionally, Clear Aligners conceal existing gaps.

CARE FOR BRACES AFTER TREATMENT

  • Brush and floss your teeth twice daily to maintain them healthy. Healthy teeth are more receptive to therapy.
  • Visit your dentist on a regular basis for follow-up examinations. Make a note of your appointments and adhere to any instructions.
  • Maintain patience. The length of therapy varies according to the circumstances. The teeth will need time to adapt.
